Help Protect the Brook Trout in the Savage River Drainage
The Youghiogheny Chapter of T.U. has developed a web site for information about the Eastern Brook Trout venture and other studies ongoing in Trout Unlimited. There is a online petition for you to sign to show support for the Savage Brook Trout. Please take a minute and sign the petition, it will help combat the threats to the regulations that are now in place. The web site is: www.savageriverbrooktrout.org
Fishing Report for
April 2008
With crowds I've seen below the dam this past week must mean the Blue Quills are on! The little mayfly is a size 16-18 and hatch mid afternoon and a spinner fall just before dark. There should also be Caddis size 14-16 in either Tan or Olive. The COE still has not decided what to do about the gates they will need to make a decision soon to fill up the lake this year.
The N.B. is just warming, it was in the high 40's last week, but there were Caddis coming off size 14 Olive, no fish rising to them that we saw. As the water warms and the White Water releases end the fishing should pick up. Since Whirling Disease is still present in the upper C&R they Md DNR will not be stocking fingerling Rainbow trout anymore. They have and will stock Brown and Cutthroat trout.
The Delayed Harvest areas should be fishing well with the warmer waters, On the Casselman and the Yough, Caddis have really been hatching this week and the Mayfly's should be starting as you read this. Hendricksons will be the first big mayfly (size 12) with the also large March Brown soon to follow. The upper N.B. should also be seeing the Caddis along with some Stoneflies.
The Army Corps of Engineers has released the dates for the AVF: October 13-14 1000cfs for both days starting early Sat morning and running thru Sun. For more info go to: http://www.nab-wc.usace.army.mil/northBranch.html
